Each session will consist of approximately 15 minutes of questions addressed to each question by the moderator; followed by 15 minutes of questions from the audience

The moderator for this forum will ask a series of prepared questions, all of which have been submitted to the candidates for their review and consideration prior to the forum, touching on issues related to GUARD’s mission, including questions about increasing traffic congestion, the health of the Colorado, the proposed Central Texas Airport, and water conservation.

Most of these issues are absolutely paramount to the healthy and responsible development of Central Texas well beyond Bastrop County.  We hope that the members of this community will turn out to participate in this historic event so that citizens in Bastrop and neighboring counties have the greatest possible opportunity to educate themselves about the issues and the candidates of the 2012 elections.

So now is a GREAT time to get out and voice your concerns about the proposed Central Texas Airport and advocate that this is a matter that is of HUGE concern to you as we go into this next election cycle.

GUARD will be gathering information about each of the candidates and publishing that information on our website in the near future.  Based on comments made at a recent candidate forum  it would seem that the current cast of candidates either believes the CTA is a done deal, is a non-issue, or in the case of  democratic candidate Joe Ternus we know that he  listed as an advisor for project design, development & instruction on the CTA website.  In that light it is fairly easy to deduce his stance on the airport.

We encourage each and every one of our members to find out all they can about the current candidates and to take this time if possible to share with the Commissioners your own concerns about the airport and how it IS and should be a BIG issue in this election and also a very important consideration for the Commissioners as they make the decision on a replacement for county judge.

The Commissioners Court meets this Monday, March 26th at 9:00 am.  Hope to see you there!

Also, Steve Box of Environmental Stewardship will update us on recent groundwater developments, including the upcoming March 7th Texas Water Development Board hearing and how decisions made by the Groundwater Management Area 12 (GMA-12) will adversely affect the health of our beloved Colorado River.  Find out how the Lost Pines area and Bastrop & Buescher State parks will be affected and what actions you can take now!

Commissioner Willi Pina will be attending and will make a short presentation to the group. Commissioner Pina will be representing the area south of the river and north of Hwy 71 when the new redistricting lines go into effect. Please come out and show your support for Mr. Pina and hear what he has to say. If you want your Commissioners to hear how you feel about the CTA, now is the time.

As a 501c3, GUARD does not support any single candidate. But we will make every effort to learn more about our candidates and share information with our members about their positions on issues of concern to us.

StopCTA will be hosting an informational Meet & Greet at the Bastrop Producers Market located at 977 Highway 71 West on Saturday, October 1 from 11:00am – 3:00pm.  Concerned citizens who have been researching the proposed Central Texas Airport issue since last year will be available to answer questions and provide in depth information in a relaxed and conversational atmosphere. Folks can drop by at any time and stay as long as they like.

Say No to CTA will be having a General Member meeting on Thursday, October 6th. Time and location will be posted soon.
