Thanks for your input Shaune. Perhaps you should view our comprehensive website, http://www.saynotocta.org to find out more about the proposed Central Texas Airport. And yes, we do “realize the huge positive economic impact an airport can bring to a community if it is ran the right way.” In fact I bet our crew has done more research regarding the effects of airports than most others. However, if you had done any research whatsoever into the CTA you would see that it is far from being “ran” the right way. We’re glad you feel that EPA laws are the be all end all for environmental protection and hopefully that helps you sleep easy at night. As for us, we aren’t so sure that the EPA is the iron curtain of environmental protection that you think it is. Ever hear of a little chemical called DDT? Give it a Google, that was a big cluster and of course the EPA were more than happy to let it go unregulated until the damage was done. And that’s just one example of many. I would say I admire someone who puts their trust in governmental agencies but in truth I don’t. I’m always amazed that there are folks like you that come out of the woodwork, having done zero due diligence, and who make claims in 2 or 3 sentences and offer nothing factual to back up such claims. Take for example, “You guys are ignorant.” Do you know us? What are you basing this on? In fact I challenge you to come to any of our meetings and put your theory to the test. We’ll be happy to show you ignorant, but it might not go over so well when you realize we’re simply holding up a mirror in front of you as you speak. Perhaps next time you make such claims you could at least offer something factual to back them up. This airport is the biggest sham I’ve ever seen in my professional career. And people like you are exactly the kind of people these developers rely on to come out in droves for support. Even still they are going to need a lot more people like you to get the support they need and from what I’ve seen most of the people in Bastrop County appreciate our attempt to keep an eye on the big picture and question those things that are too good to be true. Not everyone will blindly take these developers on their word, most people can read on our website that the head developer is a convicted fraud. It begs the question, what would it take for you to see the writing on the wall? And I suppose the answer is, “nothing”. At the first sign of a developer touting jobs you come running from the hills ready to grab a broom or a mop so you can finally have a job and everyone can live the dream of prosperity thanks to an airport that is sorely not needed. It’s sad really. I almost feel sorry for you. But then again, with the ASTOUNDING amount of evidence that we have given, which is all easily fact checked and provable, you still see the pipe dream. And if that’s how you choose to see it then who am I to tell you that you are the ignorant one here. I don’t even know you. And not to be rude but honestly if you clearly take a look at your claims, and realize that it is you that is standing behind them, despite our mountain of evidence to the contrary, I think just who the ignorant one here is will be painfully clear.

You guys are ignorant. With EPA laws there would not be any harm to the environment. Also you would not be having jumbo jets fly into this airport so sound is not an issue. Do any of you even realize the huge positive economic impact an airport can bring to a community if it is ran the right way?

Hi Martin. There has been little to no news regarding the developer’s progress on CTA. His company did purchase a piece of property on Pope Bend just south of where the airport is slated to go in. No news on the north side property. The permit “to dump dredged materials into the waters of the US” has not been approved. Sorry about the loss of your home. I hope you are able to re-establish a home in the area soon.

Hello, any idea on the current situation with the CTAP? all the info i show posted is quite old, seveal months or late last year.. I “had” a house in Tahatian Village that was distroyed and was looking at another in the Pope Bend area when i found the CTPA banners…

Hey, that’s mighty generous of you to suggest moving the proposed airport out of your backyard into someone else’s. How about not having the airport at all? It’s really not needed now that Austin Executive Airport is about to open their longer runway which will handle the same clientele.

Why Locate an Airport on Two Farm to Market Roads?

To the Editors of…
Bastrop County Commissioners…
Elgin and Bastrop City Council members…
And assorted others.

The Central Texas Airport (CTA), with the blessing of the Bastrop County Commissioners, is planning on building a private airport and a massive office/industrial complex at the intersection of FM’s 969 and 1704. The CTA estimates that they’ll have about 250 takeoffs and landings a day. They also estimate that the office/industrial complex will employ more than 40,000 people.

These tens of thousands of people will be driving on two-lane, farm to market, no shoulder roads, two times a day. Has anyone taken the time to count or consider the number of cars that will travel on these already dangerous roads? Ten thousand? Twenty thousand? Thirty thousand?

Serious traffic accidents are all but guaranteed. Unnecessary deaths, most unfortunately, will be a tragic probability. Who will take responsibility for the accidents? Who will be accountable if or when people meet untimely deaths? Or will these just be treated as collateral damage from the cost of doing business?

The CTA and its office/industrial complex are excellent ideas that will bring jobs to Bastrop County. But why not be logical and build it on accessible, empty land along Highway 71, where a four-lane, divided highway is already equipped to handle the traffic? Wouldn’t this be considerably safer and a much more rational solution. If we did not get this airport built, then there would no need for any solutions at all…This airport will create problems for the entire county government and the residents of this area for years and years to come… We all suspect with good reason that a bridge will be built across the Colorado River connecting Pope Bend Road North to FM 969 to ease the traffic flow.. We already had the Hyatt Resort forced on us and they are now using what is a county residential road for all their service trucks, vendors, employees, special events.. Pope Bend Road North cannot handle the traffic that this airport would bring.. Then the County would have to rebuild, make a new road access to the bridge…

We had a great meeting with over 130 attendees and presenters. The presentations were informational and the audience was awesome. The Hyatt was a beautiful setting – a great example of the kind of development that preserves the beauty of the river and makes it possible for guests to enjoy the river for recreation. We collected lots of signatures on petitions, distributed brochures, bumper stickers, yard signs, and banners. And we collected donations that will go a long way towards helping us Say NO to CTA. Thanks everyone for coming out and showing your support. Don’t stop now. Talk with your friends, neighbors, and family members about joining our effort. Let your public officials and school boards know we don’t want this industrial site and airport on the banks of our river, we don’t want our tax dollars footing the bill so developers can get rich quick and leave us holding the bag, and we don’t want to put our children and neighbors at risk.

Yes, the new site is a huge improvement. Kudos to Tommy!

However . . . animated? Didn’t have a clue as I have all that annoying stuff disabled globally in my browser config file. Then I nuked all the Javascript stuff with Adblock. Now the visual assault has been quelled and it’s nice and peaceful.

According to my very lengthy conversation with Strama’s office, they have extended the courtesy to Mr. Carpenter to have the bill DRAFTED. They carefully explained that is NOT the same as SPONSORING the bill. The aide also explained that legislators are reluctant to get involved with projects outside their district. Of course, Cottonwood WCID#3 is in Strama’s district but the ETJ annexation is not.
